Hermitage Bay, an all-inclusive resort tucked away on a hill that overlooks a scenic bay, offers a peaceful, private hideaway. The small, elegant resort, which opened in December 2006, covers ten lushly landscaped acres on a secluded 1,200-foot beach. Its sophisticated lobby has wooden walls, dark wood floors, and black wicker furniture. Hillside rooms afford fabulous views. Children are only allowed in August. The beach is directly off the lobby, and the lobby is at the bottom of the hill. Rooms are on the hill, so it's a steep 10 minute walk downhill along a zigzagging sidewalk to reach the sand. Hermitage Bay’s 25 suites include eight beachfront cottages and 17 hillside cottages. The 900-square-foot beachfront cottages consist of a large verandah, bedroom, and sitting room. The 1,000-square-foot hillside cottages have private plunge pools with sunbathing areas, wraparound decks, and spectacular views of the bay. All are air-conditioned and have outdoor garden showers, LCD widescreen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking stations, mini-refrigerators, coffee-makers, and luxurious linens. The tiered Beach Restaurant and its bar are located directly off the lobby, overlooking the beach. Lunch is also available around the pool, on the patio, or on the beach. The cuisine has Caribbean influences. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, and snacks are included, as are house wines and cocktails. A more extensive wine list is available at an additional charge. Private dining on the beach can be arranged for an extra charge. Hermitage Bay is approximately 35 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from St John’s, the capital of Antigua. Jolly Harbor Marina and Golf Course and the Grand Princess Casino are 10 minutes away. Honeymoon couples looking for privacy will appreciate this secluded hideaway. Couples who prefer a more exciting atmosphere or more plentiful options for on-site dining and entertainment may find Hermitage Bay too sedate. Hermitage Bay’s wedding package includes license fees and a marriage officer, a bridal bouquet and boutonniere, the ceremony, a two-tiered wedding cake, French Champagne, a private dinner on the beach, a Champagne breakfast, and an upgrade to a hillside suite with its own private plunge pool and sunbathing area. Couples booking 10 nights or more receive the package at no charge. The free honeymoon package includes a room upgrade and Champagne breakfast. Other services are available for a fee.
